Horror Film

For a weeks my media studies class and i are going to make and create horror films in small groups. well, we're going to be making a 2-3 minute intro to our films.
And so for those weeks we are going to be planning and filming within school, outside school and after school.
My group and i have been planing different kinds of storylines for the intro of our film including links related to urban legends and kind of mixing them to combine and create a different sort of fictional urban legend.

CensorShip Information

Many video games tend to be based on concerns that children will be harmed by exposure to games with violent speech and images. Many parents and communitys fear that children who watch the make-believe world of video games will copy the games’ violence in the real world. However, the U.S. Supreme Court has made a content that stops alot of violence which is protected by the First Amendment. Sexual and violent content in video games is reflected in ratings done by the Entertainment Software Rating. The ratings are intended to give consumers information about content and degree of maturity of users.
Over the last few years, governments around the world have been firing shots across the Video Game Industry, seeking to lower the graphic and violent content found in current interactive games. Groups battle cries of ' protect the children' as their permanent justification for censorship of violent videos.

"Children like violent and high stress games". a study said by Dr. Jeanne Funk, published in the Journal of 'India Pediatrics', found that about 7th and 8th grade student games involving violence, 29% preferred sports games (which also have some violent content). only 2% preferred educational games. For the past several years, video game manufacturers have chosen to create better graphics and violence, while extraordinary technological advances have made them even more realistic. Some games also feature full motion video footage of real actors as opposed to artificial characters. In Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, a player can have sex with a prostitute and then get his money back by beating her to death with his fists or with a baseball bat, action that can be controlled by the PlayStation controller, or she can be shot, with spurting blood and painful sound effects.

Reasons for and against (censorship of video games)

Censorship of video games

Reasons for:
· We need to protect our children against the exposer to violence.
· Computer games like GTA could be responsible for the rise in knife crime due the fact that it shows too much knife crime.
· Lots of scientific studies show that people can become more violent if they see violent media.

censorship is needed so that young children are not exposed to content that could harm them or be damaging. In 1990's there was a famous case in which the child Jamie Bulger was murdered by two young boys who had apparently copied the video nasty film 'childs play three' this lead to tougher censorship laws.

Reasons against:
· Don’t we need freedom of speech?
· Surely we can make up our own minds on what we should watch
· Use’s and gratifications theory

Favourite Game

Some Information Not Mine!!!

Game Info:

Grand Theft Auto III was released in October 2001. The game's setting takes place around that time, in fictional Liberty City, which is loosely based on New York City, but also incorporates elements of other American cities. Grand Theft Auto III brought a third-person view to the series, rather than the traditional top-down view of earlier titles (although the view is still made available as an optional camera angle). Graphics were also updated with a new 3D game engine. While not the first of its kind, the gameplay engine expanded the explorable world of GTA III, doing away with a traditional game structure where the player faces a "boss" at the end of the level and moves onto a new level, opting instead for more realistic mission-based approach.

After the success of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was released in 2002. This game was set in 1986 in Vice City, which was based on Miami. Vice City was also the first game to introduce fully functional flying vehicles that could be used by the player, such as sea planes and helicopters. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, released in October 2004, had its setting in the summer of 1992, focusing on California gang life and the awakening of the drug epidemic brought on by crack cocaine. The setting was in the fictional state of San Andreas, which was based on some California and Nevada cities, specifically Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Las Vegas. Their counterparts are Los Santos, San Fierro, and Las Venturas respectively. The game also included a countryside in between Los Santos and San Fierro and also between Los Santos and Las Venturas, and a desert in between Las Venturas and San Fierro.

The latest installment of the series, Grand Theft Auto IV, was released on April 29, 2008, after a six month delay. It was the first Grand Theft Auto game to be released simultaneously on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms. GTA IV's game engine is the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (also known as RAGE) used in Rockstar Games presents Table Tennis. The game once again takes place in a redesigned Liberty City that very closely resembles New York City, much more than previous renditions.

Why Its My Favourite?:

GTA is one of the most fun games i have played, its cool because you get to roam free around the city and you have set missions which you dont have to do one after another, you can take your time at doing the missions.

Another thing is that you can drive, ride, climb etc... which makes the game nore exciting and less boring.

Console History

FIRST VIDEO GAME:
Alexander S. Douglas invented the first computer game in 1952 that could use a digital and graphical display.

FIRST GENERATION:
The first computer games appeared in the 50s,they used vector displays, not video. It was not until 1972 that Magnavox released the first home video game console, the Magnavox Odyssey, was invented by Ralph H. Baer.
SECOND GENERATION:
Fairchild released the Fairchild Video Entertainment System (VES) in 1976. There had been previous game consoles that used cartridges, the cartridges had no information and served the same function as flipping switches (the Odyssey) or the console itself was empty and the cartridge contained all of the game data.
THIRD GENERATION:
In 1983, Nintendo released the Famicom in Japan. The Famicom had high-resolution and tiled backgrounds, but with more colors. This allowed Famicom games to be longer and have more detailed graphics. Nintendo brought their Famicom over to the US in the form of the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1985. In the US, video games were seen as a fad that had already passed.
FOURTH GENERATION:
Sega regained the market by releasing their next-generation console, the Sega Mega Drive, which was released in Japan on October 29, 1988, in the US in August 1989 (renamed as the Sega Genesis) and in Europe in 1990, two years before Nintendo could release the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES).
Sega extended the Mega Drive with the
Mega CD/Sega CD, to provide more storage space for multimedia-based games that were then in the development community. Later, Sega released the 32X, which added some of the polygon-processing function ewll known in fifth-generation machines.
FITH GENERATION:
The first fifth generation consoles were the Atari Jaguar and the 3DO. Both of these systems were much more powerful than the SNES or Mega Drive (known as Genesis in North America); they were better at rendering polygons, could display more onscreen colors, and the 3DO used CDs that contained far more information than cartridges and were cheaper to produce. SIX SIXTH GENERATION:
This generation saw a move towards PC-like architectures in gaming consoles, as well as a move towards using DVDs for game media. This brought games that were both longer and more visually appealing. This generation also saw experiments with online console gaming both flash and hard drive storage for game data.
As of September 20, 2007, 120 million PlayStation 2 units have been shipped. This makes it the best selling console to date.
The
Nintendo GameCube was Nintendo's fourth home video game console and the first console by the company to use optical media instead of cartridges. The Nintendo GameCube did not play standard 12 cm DVDs, instead employing smaller 8 cm optical discs.
Microsoft's
Xbox was the company's first video game console. The first console to employ a hard drive right out of the box to save games, the Xbox blurred the line between PC and console gaming, as it had similar hardware specifications to a low-end desktop computer at the time of its release.
SEVENTH GENERATION:
The features introduced in this generation include using newer high-definition discs: Blu-ray Disc, utilized by the PlayStation 3, and HD DVD supported by the Xbox 360. Another new technology is to use the motion of the controller as input (as demonstrated by the Wii and the PS3), and understanding where the controller is pointing on the screen Microsoft's Xbox 360 was released on November 22, 2005. An HD DVD drive was once available as an accessory. The Xbox 360 was the first console with the ability to use wireless controllers out of the box. The Xbox Live service is the hallmark of the system, and the console can connect to the service via the Internet through a built-in ethernet port or a wireless accessory.

Romeo and Juliet CW (not finished)

In this essay i will be examining Act 3 Scene 1 of the play 'Romeo and Juliet' and why it is a pivotal scene with also, looking at the different themes used in the play.
'Romeo and Juliet' was written by william Shakespeare in arounf 1595, it is set in Verona, Italy.
The play focuses on a young couple and their families who have been in arguements for many years.
This tale is of a secret romance as the couple try to be together, this is a mixture of both romance and tradegy.
The most pivotal scene in this play is Act 3 Scene 1.
Tybalt wants to find Rome's best friend Mercutio.Tybalt ends up fighting Mercutio, while doing so, Romeo comes in and tries to break the fight up, but as he does so, Tybalt stabs Mercutio under the arm, which sends Romeo into revenge for the death of Mercutio and starts to fight with Tybalt, as soon as the fight begins it ends with a sudden attact from Romeo, Tybalt dies.
But then Romeo has to leave as the prince is well on his way.
Romeo is scared of the prince as at the begining, he was warned that if there was to be any more fights between the two rival families there would be serious consequences.
Although Each character in the play go through different changes, especially the character of Romeo, in all the scenes before this point , he was a sort of the 'lovey dovey' and romantic and all the things he had said to Juliet was very poetic and had a large range of alliteration, for example:
''my, lips, two, blushing pilgrims, ready stand to smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss''
This describes Romeo of having a romantic feel towards Juliet.
Though when mercutio comes to his death, thats when Romeo changes from the 'lovey dovey' boy to a more serious and angry man.
In some sense, he still does have some poetic vocabulary but does not use it in that romantic jester more of a dark and voilent jester such as:
''this day's black fate on moe days's doth depend, this but begins the woe others must end''
This shows Romeos More evil, so it shows us that the theme has become more dark then it to being light and fluffy with also changing Romeo from good to bad.
Before Act 3 Scene 1 the charcter of Mercutio, was a sort of a comedic character who has the advantage of making funny comments, for example towards Romeo and the dream he had:
''if love be rough with you be rough with love, prick love for pricking and you beat love down''
This helped steer away the seriousness from events which some took place at the begining .
But even though mercutio died, the comey never really left due to that back in Act 3 Scene 1 tybalt made a few sly remarks and cruel movements towards mercutio which, to Tybalt, was funny and entertaining:

Psycho Coursework

‘PSYCHO’ was created on the 30 November 1959 and directed by Alfred Hitchcock; it was based on the book by Robert Bloch.

The plot was about a young woman, who steals $40,000 from her employer's client,
She finds a young motel owner who’s too long under the Domination of his mother.

The start of the production was on the 30th November 1959 – February 1st 1960
The release date was on the 16 June 1960 (USA)
The film locations were in:
Los Angeles, California, USA
Phoenix, Arizona, USA
Route 99 of the Fresno-Bakersfield Highway, California, USA
San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles, California, USA

Characters:
Alfred Hitchcock …Director
Anthony Perkins... Norman Bates
Janet Leigh... Marion Crane
Vera Miles... Lila Crane
John Gavin... Sam Loomis
Martin Balsam...Detective Milton Arbogast

The budget cost was US$800,000 to make the film and has earned more than US$40 million

Before the film was released Alfred Hitchcock used black and white screening to give the story a mysterious look and less predictable, with also adding haunting music to the opening titles, which continues in certain scenes throughout the film. The shower scene in the film is the most famous scene ever written. Evan the trailer created suspense by Alfred Hitchcock, who took the audience round the main parts of the film, back stage but did not finish his sentences, and he kept main details a secret.
When it came out in the cinema, Hitchcock insisted that audiences should only be allowed to see the film from the start so it did not ruin the surprise that it held. This was unheard of back then, as people were used to just coming in at any point during a movie, he did this because he felt that it would create more tension; it would have more people wanting to watch it.

But Psycho had many imitations after its release, because it was so successful, with the suspense, that many other films used its idea of the ‘bathroom’ scene, for example ‘The Simpson’s’ used the idea in a few of its episodes with using the same type of music in that very scene.

Eastenders part 2

In This essay I am going to invent/create two new characters for the new Eastenders with both different characteristics and creating a description of the characters finally writing a short sample of a screen plays between the two characters.

Characters name: Ruby Linton
Age: 22
Occupation and education: An actress, studied drama at school
Gender: female
Sexuality: straight
Race/ethnicity: Canadian
Culture:
Religion: none
Class: Working
Background and relationship
To others in the square: has an older brother in the square, others find her friendly and helpful

Characters name: Leo Linton
Age: 25
Occupation and education: left school at 16 to work as serving in bars.
Gender: male
Sexuality: straight
Race/ethnicity: Canadian
Culture:
Religion: none
Class: Working
Background and relationship
To others in the square: has a younger sister in the square, others find him cheeky and very talkative.

Sample of screen play

It’s an early frosty morning, when new comers, Ruby and Leo arrive in the square; they see a grumpy old man collecting a milk bottle outside his aluminous green door.

Ruby: The people in this square don’t look so happy do they?
Leo: That’s probably coz its morning, I’m not a morning person myself
Ruby: That’s why it was so hard getting you out of the house.
Leo: That’s just me.

Script of Eastenders
Scene 724/1 EXT outside. Albert square (09.00)

(Tracers bustle in the market. Max makes his way through, carrying an armful of groceries. Ruby passes, Leo comes out of the Vic

Ruby:
Morning, max!
(Max turns around suddenly)
Max:
Yeah, Morning!
(Max then walks off puzzled, while Ruby makes her way to Leo, who is bored)
Ruby:
Bored I see?
Leo:
Uh, yeah, I just can’t find anything to do
Ruby:
Well, you can go and find a job for a start.
Leo:
What!?
Ruby:
Don’t give me that, you need a job to live here.
Leo:
Yeah, and so do you
Ruby:
I already have one.
Leo:
(Sarcastically) Fine I’ll go and look then.
(Leo then walks off in a temper)
Conclusion

In conclusion I think that my two new characters that I created for eastenders are completely different from the real east end due to that there is hardly any Canadian or Americans that live there, and there are none that act in eastenders so in my soap I have brought a new cast, new setting and new storyline.

Eastenders Coursework Part 1

Soap operas are very common in today’s society for example eastenders is a well known soap in London it generated the highest-rated soap episode ever, with 30.15 million viewers.
A soap opera is known as ongoing episodes of dramatic, personal relationships, sexual drama, emotional conflicts in fictional stories, which is usually broadcasted on television or radio and have to have existing entertainment for long enough in order for audiences to recognize them simply by the term meaning soap.

The longest running soap opera is Coronation Street since 1960, it began as a twice a week programme. Until 1989 it was shown generally on Mondays and Wednesdays. Since 1989, the series became twice as weekly with an additional episode airing on Fridays. In 1996 it was then increased to 4 episodes a week (Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays) from around 2001, extra special episodes were added and in 2002 a fifth episode was added on a regular basis.

The first soap opera was born when the manager of the Chicago (USA) radio station WGN approached a detergent company in 1930withtheaidea of a daily, serialized drama which the two central characters were a mother and her daughter which was called ‘painted dreams’ and was written by Irna and her daughter.

Personally, I think that Eastenders is well known to be watched by young teens and adults; I myself watch Eastenders and noticed that each character has a motive, and have different past and future stories.

Overall soaps are still worthwhile now a days due to the public view ratings that they get by viewers.
